LANAP Changed the Way We Treat Gum Disease—Here’s Why That Matters

In our practice, we've seen firsthand how gum disease can affect not only a patient’s oral health but also their overall well-being. It’s more common than many people realize—nearly half of all adults over 30 have some form of periodontal disease. For years, the standard treatment involved surgery that many patients found intimidating, with cutting, sutures, and long recovery times. And honestly, many avoided treatment altogether because of that.

That’s exactly why we’re so excited about LANAP—and why we made the investment to bring this advanced technology into our practice. It’s a completely different approach to treating gum disease that has transformed how we care for our patients.

What Is LANAP?

LANAP stands for Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure, and it’s a minimally invasive way to treat moderate to severe gum disease—without the scalpels or stitches that come with traditional surgery.

The procedure uses the PerioLase MVP-7 laser, which selectively targets and removes the infected tissue and bacteria deep below the gum line, while leaving healthy tissue intact. Even more impressive, the laser also stimulates your body’s natural healing response, encouraging the regrowth of bone and gum tissue. That kind of regeneration just doesn’t happen with conventional methods.

Why We Recommend LANAP

Over the years, we’ve had many patients who were told they needed gum surgery but were understandably nervous about going through with it. When we explain LANAP as an option, we see their whole demeanor change. There’s relief—and hope. That’s because LANAP is ideal for people who want to treat gum disease effectively but are concerned about pain, downtime, or the invasiveness of traditional procedures.

We also find LANAP to be a particularly good option for patients with medical conditions like diabetes or heart disease, where healing from surgery may pose additional risks. LANAP is gentle, precise, and far easier on the body.

Real Benefits Our Patients Have Experienced

Having performed LANAP in our practice, we’ve seen some truly impressive outcomes. Patients are often surprised by how comfortable the procedure is and how quickly they recover. Many are back to their normal routines the very next day.

Here’s what stands out most:

  • No cutting or stitching – which means far less discomfort.

  • Minimal bleeding and swelling – the laser targets only diseased areas.

  • Preserved healthy gum tissue – protecting what’s still working well.

  • Actual regeneration of bone and gum – not just cleaning, but healing.

  • Results that last – we’ve seen long-term improvements that reduce the risk of future problems.

Why We Brought LANAP to Our Office

We are proud to be the one of only dental offices in our area offering LANAP, and we didn’t make that decision lightly. We chose LANAP because it aligns with how we believe dentistry should be: effective, comfortable, and built around the patient.
We believe in preserving natural teeth whenever possible, and LANAP gives us the ability to do that even in cases where surgery might have been the only option before. It’s an incredible feeling to tell a patient that they don’t have to lose a tooth—or go through a painful recovery.

If You’ve Been Putting Off Gum Treatment, Let’s Talk

If you’ve noticed bleeding gums, bad breath that won’t go away, or gum recession, don’t wait. Gum disease is progressive, but with LANAP, it’s no longer something to fear. This is your chance to treat the disease and actually support the healing of your gums and bone.

I’m from New Mexico in California for a family reunion. I broke a crown called Quality Dentistry, they were able to take me in. Upon arrival they were very friendly and attentive. Natay was AMAZING very friendly explained what she was going to do and replaced the crown. If I lived here I would make Quality Dentistry my permanent dentist.

I started going to Dr Wong at Quality Dentistry in the early 2000’s and I’ve never wanted to change dentists. This practice keeps up with technology and hires qualified, friendly and professional staff members. I always know that my comfort and well being is #1 during any procedure I might have including a simple teeth cleaning process. I highly recommend this dental office.

I have been going here for 20years now! I absolutely love it. I enjoy getting my dental cleanings. My last hygienist had retired and now I have a new favorite hygienist, Rochelle. She and her assistant Julie are so kind and funny. Both super gentle and thorough with explaining things. Dr. Wong (Dale rd) and Dr. Du (Tully Rd) are the dentist I see and they’re awesome. Great chair side manners as well. Both offices have nicest staff and very clean rooms. My husband left his other dentist when we got married and now he always recommends Quality Dentistry to his side of the family.
